PROJECT
Remove 2 rocks in a field in early Spring sub-zero conditions.

LOCATION
Field outside Warsaw, Ontario, Canada.

BACKGROUND
”One of many field rocks that has damaged different types of farm equipment, but I just ignored, finally drew my attention during down time in the spring. I started digging, but found the rock far too big to pry out of the ground, and also, uncovered a second rock leaning on it. After searching out different options, I decided to try Dexpan expanding grout.”

CHALLENGES
1. “Tractor broke down and fields too wet for heavy equipment anyways this time of year
2. The uncovered second rock smashed away with hammer and chisel, but the original rock was solid.
3. Needed to break the large rock into smaller manageable pieces.”

PROJECT EXECUTION
Product: Dexpan Type 3
Dexpan Hole Diameter: 1-1/2”
Hole Spacing: 10”
Drill Depth: 16” (75% of rock depth)
Conditions: Air was -10 to +10 C and rock temperature probably around -1 C.
Time: Best results in 48 hours

CUSTOMER OBSERVATIONS & TIPS
Be patient. “Narrow cracks appeared after 24 hours, but widened after 48 hours due to the cold outside temperatures..“
Mix well. “Not sure about Type 1 or 2, but Type 3 needs to be stirred extra well. Scrape the bottom of the bucket when stirring; don't just let the mixer glide over the bottom of the bucket. Work the bottom of the bucket hard when mixing as a thick paste will remain on the bottom if ignored and reduce the Dexpan to water ratio.”
